{edible playdough}

Today was such a rainy day, and my girls were antsy for something to do. I thought it was the perfect time to try the edible playdough I had been thinking about for a couple of weeks.
After browsing through a few recipes, I decided to take a slightly different approach when I realized how similar they were to one of my favorite treats ever...Buckeyes.

If you haven't heard of them, they are a delightful mixture of peanut butter, powdered sugar, and butter that are rolled into balls and dipped into chocolate. SO, so delicious. So, I gave it a try, and I'm so glad!

The girls LOVED it, and were able to eat their creations afterward. It was the perfect rainy day activity!

  • 3 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 3/4 c. peanut butter
  • Combine all three ingredients in a large bowl, using your hands to make sure it's well mixed.
  • Let them play! Raisins, nuts, pretzels, dry cereal, and chocolate chips make fun additions to their creations.

That IS a great idea! Even though store bought playdough is non-toxic, it still bugs me when my 2 year old eats it... and he won't stop - especially because he knows I don't want him to :) I think I'll give this a try tomorrow!

The kids loved it! A bit crumblier than playdough because all I had was organic peanut butter, but man did those crumbly little sculptures taste good!

Recommendations for kids with peanut allergies? What would be a good substitute to keep the moisture?

I think this looks like a wonderful project! I may make it for playtime and treat-time for our nursery at Church. I've already confirmed that none of the kids have peanut allergies!

@ Rachel Ann - You could buy Almond Butter if your kids don't have tree nut allergies. It's a little pricier than peanut butter, though. I can usually find Almond Butter in the natural food section of my local Kroger. I've also seen it near the peanut butter in the regular aisles.
