{prayer rocks}

Prayer rocks have been around forever, but I had completely forgotten about them until last week, when I was reminded by my friend about how fun they could be.  It was perfect for our upcoming family night lesson on prayer, so I whipped up a few for my kids. It's placed on their pillow during the day, so they will be reminded to pray at night, then at night, it goes on the floor, so they'll step on it when they wake up and remember to pray.  I really love this idea, and I always have.

I may have had a prayer rock before, but it certainly didn't have vinyl or mod podge on it.  :)  This is a really fast and easy project--also fun for things like girls' camp, activity days, primary, scouts, and more. With the cheap price tag, it's not going to break anyone's budget either.

  • rocks!  Look for ones that are about 2-2.5 inches wide, with a flat smooth surface.
  • spray paint
  • vinyl, or stickers, rub-ons, etc.
  • mod podge and foam brush

1. Wash the rocks well, then let dry completely. Spray paint the top and sides of the rocks, then let dry completely.  When you turn the rock over, there might be some dried drips that ran down the sides onto the bottom (which is now face up).  I used a piece of rough grit sandpaper to smooth down any dried paint drips that may have accumulated.  Spray paint that side, then let dry.

2.  Add your desired vinyl, rub-ons, or stickers--any will work.  Using a foam brush, mod podge the entire rock, including over the vinyl.  This will seal the rock, help keep the vinyl in place longer, and give it a nice finished shine.

So fun!  I love re-discovering things like this!

Have a wonderful and safe holiday!  God Bless America!

Those are so cute and such a neat idea. Are they meant to just be a reminder to pray or is there a specific way to use them? I'd love to hear.

Hi Randi! I'm so sorry I didn't give more of an explanation! I went back and added one in the first paragraph to explain how they work. Yes, the are a way to remind them to pray--both morning and evening. I just love this idea--great for kids and adults alike!

Happy 4th!!
