{back 2 basics} whipperberry

I am just thrilled that Heather is here today!  Take one look at her fabulous blog, and you'll know why!
.....

Thank you, thank you Kierste for inviting me to participate in your fabulous Back to School series!!  I am truly honored.  Hello everyone, I'm Heather from WhipperBerry...

I am one of those love it and hate it kind of back-to-school kind of people.  I LOVE buying new school supplies and secretly I have a stash of some brand new crayons and pencils that I keep all to myself.  I love the new beginnings and the energy in the air.  I hate having to get back to the grind, wake up early and have to shuffle sleepy eyed kiddos out the door.  This year {gulp} I have a freshman in high school, a whole new world for us here!  Let's just say, life is getting a little more well... BUSY!  Not too long ago I was thrifting with my sweet husband and came across this field sketch board at the local Goodwill and thought it would transform nicely into a fun memo board for my new high schooler...

So... a sketch pad is like a giant clip board that you can buy at art supply stores and it generally looks like this {just a little less used}...

I have found some new, here for a little over $9.00.  Mine is 26x23.  I started off by masking the clips so that when I spray painted it they would be protected...

Then I spray painted the whole thing using Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover Aqua Satin paint.  Once I gave it a few good coats I let it rest for a few days so that the paint would fully dry.  Then I taped off a fun and ever popular chevron pattern and began the spraying process all over again with Chalk Board paint...

Isn't it cute?  Here is where I got a little stuck.  I knew it need a little more, but I didn't want it over the top.  My freshman isn't the super frilly type.  So... then I thought about adding a basic small rope or twine to the bottom so that she could hang some of her favorite pictures with cute clothes pins! That should do the trick...

Then, all I had to do was figure out a way to hang it in her room.  I decided to take some of the same rope wrap it around the top clips and then hang it from a wreath hanger placed over the back of her bedroom door...

Now she can use the clips to keep track of important papers and then use the chevron chalkboard as a calendar of sorts. How fun is that.  My younger daughter is getting a little jealous, I may have to make her one too!!
Here are a couple of my other back-to-school ideas...

I would love for you to swing by WhipperBerry and say hello!  We're always cookin' up something fun or at least something that can brighten your day.  Thanks again Kierste, you've been a fabulous hostess!!

.....

What a smarty pants idea to use the sketch pad! I love the chalkboard chevron design...darling!!!  Thank you so much, Heather!  If you haven't been to Whipperberry, (an even if you have) you really must go...today!
