{turtle brownies}

I love love anything "turtle".  Give me chocolate, caramel & nuts, and I'm a very happy girl.  So, it's no surprise that these brownies are one of my favorite things ever.  The richness of the chocolate, gooey-ness of the caramel, crunchiness of the nuts, and the fudginess of the brownie  is the most delicious combination.  Serving them warm out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream will knock your socks off!

{Turtle Brownies}

Mix together:
German Chocolate cake mix
1/3 c. evaporated milk
¾ c. butter, melted
1 c. chopped nuts

Spoon half of the mixture into a greased 9x13 baking dish.  Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Cool slightly.

Melt in pan and spread over top of brownies:
14 oz. caramels (Kraft caramels or similar)
1/3 c. evaporated milk

6 oz. chocolate chips on top of caramel mixture

Drop remaining brownie mixture in walnut-sized balls close together over the brownies.  Bake at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes.

*I've substituted a Ghirardelli brownie mix for the cake mix, and it makes a fudgier brownie.  I usually reduce the butter a little bit when I do that.

**If you have nut allergies at your house, you can omit them, and the brownies will still be yummy!

These truly are the best brownies ever. I've never heard them called Turtle Brownies, but they are best when served straight from the fridge. They will change your life!!

I made these last night and they are delicious! If you eat them just out of the oven, they are a hot (and delicious) gooey mess, but once they sit overnight they become solid like regular brownies. Either way, be sure to have vanilla ice cream on hand! Thanks for the recipe!

Do you make the German Chocolate mix using the directions on the box first?

This is a favorite recipe of mine that my Grandma Olive used to make, except she called them Goombahs! I don't know where that name came from, but I love that it is original! I just "found you" tonight and I am enjoying your creative ideas! Thanks!
