{general conference buckets...picture version}

Each April and October, our family listens to General Conference, which is an opportunity to hear from our church's leaders.  We look forward to it, but it can be difficult with little ones to keep them as excited about sitting still for that long.

A couple of years ago, I created our General Conference Treat Buckets, and they have been a HUGE hit in our family.  My girls are 5 now, and they count down until it's time to watch, lol. In the first version, I only included the words on the front, but I've since made a pictures version, adding pictures that correlate with the text.  This makes it easier for my littlest ones to participate, and have a visual reminder of what's being spoken about.

How does it work?  I bought 5 buckets, labeled them with different words I wanted them to be listening for, and filled them each with candy.  When they hear one of those words, they can come and take a piece of candy! Love it.

 To make the pictures version, I searched for pictures that went with the words, changed them to b&w, and printed them out on regular copy paper.  I matted them on two coordinating colors of cardstock, and distressed all the edges using Distress Ink.

I found 12 inch wooden dowels in the cake decorating section at Walmart for  $2. Perfect!

 I used white duct tape to secure the pictures to the back of the dowel, tied a ribbon at the top, and placed them in the buckets.

It has definitely become a family {favorite}, and has really enhanced the experience for all of us.

This would also work for a classroom setting, and other applications in the home too!  Have fun!

Very cute, Kerste. I should have taken a bag of M&M's, chosen a word and every time I heard the word POPPED ONE INTO MY MOUTH ; ) I hope you all enjoyed Conference yesterday and that you enjoy today.

What a great idea. I might have to try this with my kids, then maybe I could even hear the talks a little better. TFS.

I did this finally this year, but did a couple things different. I made tags on the fronts and each session we added a word so they didn't get bored with them. They also got sick of getting up each time they heard the word, so for my older ones we made a little tally sheet and at the end of each talk they would load up on what they got. I did think pictures would be great although I would have never made it as cute as you did. Thanks for the ideas!

I did this with my family this last month and like you, it was a hit! The pictures are a good idea since my 4 year old can't read yet and kept asking which one said what. Where did you get the "faith" picture with the dirt and green?
