{stars & stripes oreos}

I am CRAZY about the 4th of July.  I love every bit of it--the fireworks, parades, BBQs, colors, flags--and of course, we can't forget the food!

These darling Stars & Stripes Oreos really could not be more simple, and are SO fun!  My kids loved helping with these, and eating them even more.  They will be a perfect addition to our Independence Day celebration!

{supplies}

*Oreos
*Wilton Candy Melts in red and blue
*White Wilton Candy Melts (or white chocolate chips)
*Squeeze bottle

{directions}

1.  Follow melting directions on the back of the candy melts package.  If you're using white chocolate chips, you can  melt them in the microwave at 50% power for 1 minute, then stir.  Repeat 30 seconds at a time until the chocolate is nice and smooth.  You can also do this in a double boiler, if you prefer.  Dip the tops of the Oreos into the chocolate, and set cookie side down onto wax paper to dry. You can certainly dip the whole cookie if you like, but just doing the tops is much faster, and uses a lot less chocolate.

2.  To make the stars and stripes, I used plastic squeeze bottles, and it made the job incredibly easy.  You can buy them at Michael's for about $1 a piece--mine are by Wilton, and came in a 2-pack for around $2.  I love them!  Once the chocolate is melted, you just pour the chocolate in, then use it to draw the stars and stripes on top of each **Oreo.  If you don't have a squeeze bottle, you can certainly use a piping bag, or a sandwich bag with a tiny bit of the corner cut off.

**I have little girl that can't eat gluten, so I used the gluten-free version by Glutino.  They are delicious!!

Once your designs are on, place them in the refrigerator to set. LOVE them!!!

My daughter can't eat gluten either! We're having some people over this weekend and these would be super cute.
