{fit friday}

Hi everyone! Hope you are all enjoying these last few weeks of summer! I can't believe how fast it's gone - sad to say goodbye to lazy days but also looking forward to welcoming new adventures !

Although summer is almost over I don't think these hot temperatures are over quite yet! One of my favorite things to have for breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon snack when the weather is scorching are smoothies.

With the internet and blogs and an interest in health these days different smoothie recipes are all over the place right now. Here are a few reasons why I can't get enough of them:

1. They can easily be adjusted to the fruit you prefer or have on hand.

 2. They are super quick - just throw everything into a blender all at once and a few minutes later you're good to go!

3. Most are pretty healthy :)

 Here are some of my top favorites

Green Smoothies

  • 2-3 cups organic spinach
  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or regular fat-free milk)
  • 1-2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 frozen banana


Protein Smoothies
(can easily substitute peanut butter with another fruit and replace chocolate powder with vanilla)


- 2 bananas (sliced and frozen) 
- 1 Tablespoon peanut butter 
- 1 cup fat free milk 
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder

Greek Yoplait/Jamba Juice 
These are a great option for convenience sake! No cutting or measuring - everything is done for you!

Pre-Bag Your Own
 
If the convenience of the pre-packaged smoothies is appealing - make some yourself and keep them in the freezer all ready to go. 
    
1 cup of mixed frozen fruit
 (whatever you like)
3/4 cup fat free milk
1/2 chunked frozed yogurt
 (you can take some yogurt and freeze it in ice trays)
Here is a great link with lots of other bagged smoothie recipes and ideas. 

If you haven't already - give a homemade smoothie a try - especially the green one - you'll be amazed that you're getting so much spinach without tasting it at all :) Once you've made a few - be brave and try concocting some new recipes of your very own! Mix and match recipes, use what you have on hand, find the one that you like best - you just might get hooked :)  I's a perfect start, middle, or end to any hot summer day!
